Red is the colour of the Root chakra or Muladhara. This is the first of the seven primary chakras, and it deals with our base needs and wants.
The Root chakra is often overlooked for the more metaphysical, high-minded chakras that deal with consciousness, oneness, love and other “noble” ideals.
But the Root chakra is the base of the chakra system. All of your spiritual energy passes through the red chakra – so it’s important to know what it does.
Root Chakra Red
The Root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is represented by the colour red.
Red is a grounding colour, which makes sense for the Root chakra as it represents our connection to the Earth.
It also conjures up ideas of blood, health and passion.
A glow of red around the Root chakra at the base of the spine can be an auric sign of good Root chakra health. On the other hand, if muddy reds dominate the aura, then the Root chakra might be blocked, whereas vivid reds dominating the aura may suggest that the Root chakra is overactivated.
Problems With The Red Chakra
Developing problems in the Root chakra can result in changes in the amount and tone of red in your aura.
It can also cause the following symptoms:
Excessive pessimism. Imbalance in the Root chakra can cause you to feel as though nothing can go right for you.
Eating disorders. Many eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia can be traced back to the Root chakra, which deals with nutritional survival.
Greed. Linked to eating disorders, an overactive Root chakra can cause you to gorge yourself now in case there is nothing for you later.
Fear and anxiety. Many Root chakra problems are rooted in fear.
For instance, greediness in this context stems from a fear of missing out.
Insecurity. This is not only insecurity regarding being needy, but also a constant feeling that things could go very wrong, very quickly.
As you can see, the Root chakra is very important even for basic living. This makes problems in the Root chakra the highest priority when it comes to addressing issues.
Red Chakra Meditation
The Root chakra needs to be grounded. The reason why we sit when we meditate as it allows the Root chakra, which lies at the base of the spine, to contact the ground and absorb energy from the Earth.
Regular meditation will help to balance your Root chakra. Concentrate on ridding yourself of fear and anxiety, developing trust in yourself to solve any issues. Remember, you’ve made it this far – nothing has beaten you yet, because you’re still here.
Using red crystals can help, too. These include ruby, garnet and fire opal.
